Birtamode Attacked by Maoists

Birtamode, a trade hub of Jhapa, eastern Nepal, that facilitates the transaction of consumer goods to the northern districts in Eastern Nepal, was attacked by Maoists today morning at 7 pm. My local reporter friend Subrat Neupane told me over the phone that the a truckful guerrillas and another in half a dozen motorbikes attacked the Traffic Police at the center of the town. They also opened fire on police booth in east bus stand.

The casualties are not yet known but a few policemen are injured. At around 8 am the Maoists retraced from their attacking position. This attack comes two weeks after Ilam attack and the fresh agreements between Seven Party Alliance (SPA) and the Maoists. I was in this place last week and the rumor of attack was prevalent.
